Introduction to Zen Buddhism

The Buddha’s story is our story. Each of us, if we have come to Zen practice, has considered the received wisdom of our culture and questioned it, looking for a more authentic and fulfilling way of life, just as the Buddha did centuries ago.

In this introduction to Zen, we will look at some of the core teachings of Buddhism through the lens of the Soto Zen lineage. Through meditation, talks and discussion, we will discover how the ancient teachings are as alive today as during Buddha’s time.

The class will be led by MBZC resident priest Diane Wells, Kanshin Zenkei :: Broad Heart, Total Function. Diane was ordained in 2022 and now leads MBZC morning zazen and service. Here is how she describes the class:

I do a brief overview of Buddhist history, movement, and thought including an introduction to Soto Zen. The format is one of a flexible discussion in consideration of the attendees’ experience and goals.

This is a free class (hybrid: in-person and broadcasting on Zoom).
