Old Age, Sickness and Death — a Conversation

  • Carl Cherry Center for the Arts (map)

image provided by Kathy Whilden

Through conversation and discussion, Kathy Whilden and Guy Riina will explore their personal experiences with aging as well as their experiences with illnesses and the medical system.

Kathy and Guy value curiosity and being present in living the lives we actually have.

This workshop is not intended to be academic or to be focused on particular Zen teachings or literature, but rather on life experience.

Kathy Whilden studied zen teachings and practice with Monterey Bay Zen Center founding teacher Katherine Thanas for many years, receiving Dharma transmission from Sobun Thanas Roshi in 2010. Kathy has now reached old age and is experiencing sickness, and wondering about death.
Guy Riina was also ordained in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, in 2022. His neurological disease was diagnosed in 2015; the challenges and opportunities presented continue to allow his perspectives on body, mind and this life to unfold.

Hybrid participation online and in-person. In-person health protocol.

The workshop is offered Free to All. Registration is requested.
