Our MBZC Board of Directors' co-presidents, Susan Nine and Susan Brodey will lead us in a McGowan House work practice “samu”.
Samu is an (extended) work practice period American Soto Zen adherents more commonly know as soji and most often following zazen.
Here is what Suzuki Roshii taught.
From co-president Susan Nine:
Work practice is integral to meditation training. Whether you are a student or seasoned practitioner or both, please consider consecrating a couple of hours to tending our beautiful and beloved McGowan House Center while building community. Anything done for the Dharma is never wasted! We will spend up to two hours doing various indoor and outdoor cleaning and upkeep activities.
You are welcome to join us for any portion, if not all, of the work period. Refreshments will be provided. As a courtesy to St. James Church attendees, please plan to park on the Franklin Street (McGowan) side of the church campus. Thank you!
