Practicing Yogacara Buddhism with Vasubandhu’s "Three Natures"
Ben Connelly returns once again to the Monterey Bay Zen Center as a guest teacher.
In this workshop, you’ll discover how wisdom from fourth-century India can be harnessed to heal and transform systems of harm within ourselves and our communities.
In his new book, Vasubandhu’s “Three Natures,” a plain-English commentary, Ben shows the power of integrating early Buddhist psychology with the Mahāyāna emphasis on collective liberation.
Ben has offered his wisdom and open heart many times to MBZC. We are fortunate to have him return in person for this workshop. As a reverend and gentleman he opens the doors to transformation in our individual lives and thereby extends it into much needed environmental and societal change.
Ben Connelly is a Soto Zen teacher and Dharma heir in the Katagiri lineage. He also teaches mindfulness in a wide variety of secular contexts including police training and addiction recovery groups. He works with multifaith groups focused on intersectional liberation, racial justice, and climate justice. Ben serves the Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, travels to teach across the United States, has written for Tricycle and Lion’s Roar magazines, and is author of Inside the Grass Hut: Living Shitou’s Classic Zen Poem, Inside Vasubandhu's Yogacara, and Mindfulness and Intimacy.
Vasubandhu's "Three Natures": A Practitioner's Guide for Liberation was originally published by Wisdom in 2022. Follow the title to read some of the book reviews. Weijen Teng joined Ben as a co-translator.
