The Endless Tide : Susan Brodey
Mar 20
I might think that grace has been worn away,
Been weathered away,
been hailed on by illness.
Within my chrysalis there is sorrow
Yet there is Russian sage, bumblebees,
Cleaning my bowls, walking these paths.
Birdsong is breath.
Birds breathing song.

Sitting by the Carmel River
plank bridge above the clear flowing sheet
below a bed of rock fitted like a jigsaw puzzle
bunches of root-strands extend into the flow
tense red mats, drinking.
Alder, mule fat, water-mint,
one twined muscle extended
mountain to sea to mountain,
speaking about the water
isn't to know the water.
